A fixture of the Don Harrington Center, the Helium Centennial Time Columns Monument commemorates the discovery of helium. Standing 55 feet high, it suspends four spheres inside two elliptical rings, representing helium's molecular structure; each sphere holds a time capsule, containing more than 4,000 items, to be opened at different points throughout the next 1,000 years. The monument lies about four miles east of downtown, near the Amarillo Country Club.
